Influence of cartoons on children

Multifilms and their influence on children's psyche

Influence of cartoons on children

Time limits for watching cartoons are very difficult. According to psychologists, there are at least four reasons why children cannot be separated from the screen.

  1. “It is difficult for a child to complete any activity and switch to another one due to age peculiarities,” explains Professor Olga Garabanova. For the same reasons, they cannot be separated from the game when it is time to have lunch or go for a walk. To face it, adults sometimes have trouble coping with this task, too, and because of the nights spent in social networks or watching TV shows.
  2. Multi>Multifilms make a child laugh, which triggers the production of pleasure hormones, and this physiologically brings him back to such a pleasant activity – I want to look at it again! It is also important that to watch cartoons, the child does not need any effort, because it is easier than something to invent, find something to do and start playing. And safer: no one scolds for a blown up steam machine, broken vase or painted walls.
  3. Animation is close to children's consciousness. It is very difficult for a preschooler with a still unformed system of perception of the world to identify the most important things, to follow many actions and connections simultaneously,” explains Olga Garabanova. – And the cartoon isolates exactly what you need, and serves it in a colorful form, without abusing the distractions of the needs. Some schematization, simplification, emphasis on certain details causes sympathy of the child and helps him to follow the specific hero. Therefore, a colorful, recognizable, but not overloaded image becomes popular with children. The character, on the one hand, is simplified, but on the other hand, it emphasizes the most important thing, it is clear. We adults determine the mood of a conversation partner or a feature film character by the mass of signs – expression of eyes, facial expressions, posture, etc. The child cannot do this because of lack of experience, and there is no need for animation in it”.
  4. “All cartoons cause regression, – says Doctor of Psychology Mark Sandomirsky. – That's why many of them have no words at all – they're not needed there. A five-year-old child comes back to his or her two year olds when he or she was not very good at it and was not used to using the language. A ten-year-old is a preschooler, an adult is a child. It's a very simple and affordable way of emotionally relieving”.

Whichever cartoons are better – old or new

Many parents, especially grandmothers, are trying to teach the child to empathize and make the child better by using the good old Soviet cartoons that they grew up with.

But, alas, they do not find the right response in today's children.

This is a shame, because despite the fact that the realities have changed, the eternal values – friendship, loyalty, love, which were these old cartoons – are always relevant.

Mark Sandomirsky sees the reason for this dislike in the fact that the Soviet cartoons were created exclusively for educational purposes.

Negative hero does not obey, behaves in a wrong way, although he is warned, and eventually gets into trouble. Then the kind, generous, right heroes give him a helping hand and he gets better.

With minimal variations it happens in every cartoon. That is, the cartoon is addressed to the inner parent.

And this kind of animation is more difficult for children to perceive.

Western animators – the authors of “Tom and Jerry”, “Duck Stories”, “Chip and Dale” – set a fundamentally different goal – an entertaining one.

Maybe that's why the old American samples are still popular with today's kids, unlike the “moral” Soviet ones. Tom and Jerry, Uncle Scrooge have been (and continue to be) addressing the inner child.

And here, the logic of an educational approach becomes an enemy – much more interesting when events are unpredictable.

Our modern multipliers have learned this lesson perfectly. It's impossible to break away from the screen when the baby Masha does something to the Bear that she won't dream of, showing the wonders of dexterity, creativity, and ignoring the laws of nature.

This is our way of thinking, as a child. Not only that, all the pranks get away with it, but the tarararam and some other unpleasant consequences are easily and discreetly settled.

Big patient Bear (as well as his overseas Visavi Tom), which seems to pose a threat to the little Masha and has power over it, represents for the young viewer adults, parents.

A hooligan Masha (as well as a mouse charm) is a child himself, who, looking at Masha's adventures, feels like a little one, a winner, spills out aggression, experiences an experience that will not get in reality.

There is another reason why children watch modern cartoons with great pleasure, not old Soviet ones. Many post-Soviet samples are made using computer graphics.

And neither a puppet nor the most exquisite cartoon can compare with it in terms of the depth of impact on the psyche of the child. The complex perspective created on the computer, an incredible number of details that also magically move, amaze the imagination, bring into the world of new illusions. The picture seems more seductive, richer, livelier.

Which cartoons have a good influence on a child's psyche, and which are bad

The most useful psychologists consider cartoons, albeit with a primitive plot, but accessible and close to the child's perception, in which the good wins: they will awaken the ability to sympathize.

A harmful – animation in which the topic of violence is discussed. You don't have to think he doesn't understand anything anyway. Sounds, expressions of faces that mean anger, hostility, appeal to our instinctive. At the unconscious level, this behavior of heroes on the screen, if it goes unpunished, is assimilated by the child as allowed.

What do they see?

By 1.5-2 years old, the child is fascinated by the movement of bright spots on the screen and the ability to follow them – like a bright toy above the crib or on a playmat. However, visual overload, when an abundance of vivid images blend into a general visual coma, can work almost like hypnosis.

In 3-5 years old, a child identifies a character, watches his or her actions in vivid detail, and sometimes repeats them!

In 6-7 years old, a child can already observe the actions of characters, which become a form of expression and development of their relationship with each other. He's interested in collisions and unexpected turns in the development of stories. He already knows what is good and what is bad, can evaluate characters and sympathize with them.

Influence of cartoons on the psyche of children

Influence of cartoons on children

To find some free time for themselves, today's parents often sit their children in front of TVs or monitors.

A child staring at the screen, causes a sense of humility and delight to parents: “Well done! He's watching the story so closely!” What's really behind this fascination? Does the screening really benefit the baby? And in general, how safe are modern animations?

An animated film is a kind of art, the main element of which is the technique of animation.

Animated today – it is a high-yielding business, focused primarily on making a profit, and often the ethical side of the issue lies only on the conscience of people who run this business.

To understand what our children absorb when looking at the screen, we adults need to be able to understand this art.

From what age and how much time can a child watch cartoons, how to distinguish a good cartoon from a bad one, whether to watch it with the child and how to determine the impact of what you see on the psychological state of the child – all this is detailed here.

Multifilm and the age of the child

Not all parents know that watching cartoons is allowed for children over 3 years old, not before! Why is that so, because it says 0+ on the box with the disc? We will look for the answer from specialists in the field of psychology and medicine – oculists, psychologists and pediatricians.

“Watching cartoons by children up to 3 years old can cause irreversible consequences of the psyche,” said the teacher – psychologist Natalia Matushkina, head of the coordination and analytical department of the Moscow City Center for Psychological and Pedagogical Expertise of Games and Toys.

Professionals also believe that..:

  1. up to 2-3 years of age the content of the cartoon is not perceived by the child;
  2. up to 3 years of age the visual system is still formed, and watching the animations disrupts the process of formation and formation of visual function of the child;
  3. viewing cartoons up to 3 years leads to overload of the central nervous system, which leads to hyperactivity or retardation;
  4. Early watching animated films leads to a delay in speech development;
  5. increased risk of attention deficit syndrome, when the crumb instead of live communication with parents gets missing emotions from the TV screen.

How long can I watch cartoon films for children? Surprisingly, today not all mothers and fathers know about the standards recommended by the World Health Organization. Thus, for example,

  1. Children from 0 to 3 years of age are prohibited from watching TV programs completely;
  2. 3 to 7 years – 30 minutes a day;
  3. Ot 7 to 10 years – 30-50 minutes a day;
  4. Ot 11 to 18 years – 1-3 hours a day.

Watching the cartoon with the child?

If the cartoon is unfamiliar, look at it yourself, make sure it is safe, and then offer a crumb. When your child watches the animation for the first time, the presence of an adult is necessary!

Who, if not the parent will explain the story, will evaluate the characters, will give their opinion on what they saw!

Besides the explanations about the cartoon, the child will get invaluable time to communicate with parents. He will learn the opinion of his father and mother about the main character of the cartoon, which will help him to form his own opinion about him and decide whether he needs to imitate. Parents will help to understand by the example of a cartoon, how to act well, and how bad it is. That is, the child is actively involved in the educational process.

After watching the film, discuss the film together. Let your son or daughter retell the story, evaluate the characters, repeat the words of a fun song! It will develop his speech, his memory, he will learn to analyze, generalize, express his opinion.

Multifilm is a source of information for children

Not all adults who are parents are aware of the impact of the information coming from the TV or monitor on the child. They think cartoons are fun for kids, that's all. In fact, the influence of cartoon characters on the upbringing of a baby is so great that we can't ignore it.

In today's high-tech environment, we have the opportunity to choose when and what to watch for our children. Using this opportunity, parents should understand that they are responsible for their child. Any information that the cartoon carries will have an impact on the baby, will affect his speech, behavior, mood, and ultimately the understanding and perception of the world around him.

As well as it should be made clear that not all parents understand the peculiarities of assimilation of information by their children. The fact is that due to their age and peculiarities of thinking, kids perceive any information literally, are not able to analyze and comprehend it. So any animation film should be as useful and as safe as possible for them.

If your favorite cartoon character hits another frying pan over the head, don't be surprised if your child tries to do the same thing. If you are against such “entertainment”, it is necessary to learn to understand the huge mass of modern Russian and foreign cartoons.

Nice cartoon: how to distinguish?

Nice cartoon always teaches good. The plot of the cartoon is logically arranged and “tangled” according to the age of the baby, ie your three-year-old will gladly tell you it.

The characters of the cartoon film are drawn beautifully and are as close to reality as possible. It is not difficult for a child to recognize familiar animals, people, objects, they do not look disproportionate monsters.

Negative character is always punished. With its help in the cartoon it is easy to show behavior that is not accepted in society (for example, disrespect for elders, greed, cowardice, laziness), to explain why such behavior is not welcome and in the end, it is necessary to rehabilitate the negative character. In this case, the child gets a visual educational lesson.

In a good cartoon there are always two opposites: good and evil. These two concepts are clearly separated and easily recognizable by the child. They have a certain influence on the protagonist.

These opposing notions are shown on examples: how friendship, mutual help, love (in the cartoons “Biggest friend”, “Cat Leopold”) helps, and how anger, greed, envy (in the cartoons “Treasure Island”, “Tale of greed”, etc.) harm.e.)

Children under a certain age cannot analyze and approach the concepts of good and evil philosophically. Therefore, clarity and clarity in the image of good and bad is necessary. From the cartoon with their clear separation, the child will get the notion of the basic values accepted in society.

Victory over evil is very important for young viewers, because then they are convinced by examples that following good, fair principles helps to achieve the desired, and if you are evil, bad, you will be judged and not accepted in society.

In a good cartoon, the role of a negative character should be unambiguous: it should cause resentment, condemnation. By his appearance, the baby should clearly define: this hero is a negative one. During the development of the plot, he must be defeated by a good hero or reared under the influence of good.

This example will clearly show the child what is good and what is bad and will teach him to draw conclusions. If your children can tell the difference between good and evil in the film, they can do so in real life.

A good cartoon does not contain vulgarity, does not prepare you to perceive the lack of taste and rudeness for the norm, but brings up the aesthetic taste and teaches you beauty.

If the animated film contains a love story, it must be shown in a sublime, spiritual, chaste way. The story shouldn't be of early interest to a child for sex. Everything about physical intersex attraction must be hidden until a certain age.

In a good cartoon, the speech of the heroes is correct, does not contain swear words and jargons.

Important for perception is the brightness of colors and screen flickering. The younger the child, the “calmer” the screen should be. The same requirements are applied to the sound design: the music for the film should be beautiful, easy, without sharp exciting sounds.

Bad cartoon: What to look out for

Not all modern animated films for children are focused on the upbringing of positive character traits in the child. Some of them have a negative impact: they show aggression, cruelty, negative attitude towards the weak, disrespect for the elders, etc.

After watching such “masterpieces” the child starts to show aggression and cruelty. The simple plots of such cartoons slow down the development of imagination, logical memory, the ability to concentrate the imagination.

Lack of competent speech will harm the baby in the formation of speech skills.

In such cartoons there is no logical storyline. Your son or daughter will not be able to tell you what the cartoon is about (e.g., “Winx”), the heroes have a far from real appearance, they are depicted ugly, disproportionately (e.g., “Futurama”).

In such cartoons negative and positive characters are not clearly defined. Throughout the viewing it is difficult to understand which of the characters is positive and which is negative. Without understanding this, it is difficult to evaluate the hero and choose an object to follow.

The deeds of negative heroes are not punished, and their bad behavior leads to the achievement of goals (for example, in the cartoon “Masha and the Bear” the caprices of the heroine Masha reach the goals – she gets what she wants).

In a bad cartoon for the upbringing of children the parents can be shown from the negative side. For example, they're portrayed as pathetic, not far away. And the protagonist comes to the cherished goal by denying their will. Such a moment brings up in the younger generation disrespect for the elders, the desire to go against the good advice of older family members.

Only in such animations you can hear harsh speech, slang. Disrespect for commonly accepted social ideals and norms of behaviour is promoted. Men's characters are shown to be pampered and weak; women's characters are shown to be masculine and assertive. After watching this cartoon, the phrase “girls need to be protected” sounds incomprehensible to the baby.

If we talk about the design, the colors in such a cartoon are poisonous – bright, and frequent flashes and shimmering of the screen hypnotize the look, the music is chosen sharp, loud.

After watching: watching the child

To finally understand the impact of the cartoon on the baby, do not need to be a certified psychologist. It is enough to watch what emotions the next cartoon on your baby's face causes.

If he feels sorry for the weak, rejoices when good wins the evil, frowning at the intrigues of the negative characters, sings a funny song along with the characters – then everything is fine, the cartoon has had a positive impact.

After watching such a cartoon, the child is inspired, feels only positive emotions, tells the story with pleasure, conveys the feelings of the hero, rejoices that good has won the evil.

If you notice negative behavior, the child is excited, his laughter is similar to hysterical, there is aggression – this is a reason to be wary.

Modern parents who want to educate their children honest, responsive, fair, need to know and understand what is a modern cartoon, what the impact it has and how to protect your child from the negative flow of unnecessary information. Good luck on your way!

Influence of cartoons on children. Why watch the cartoon before showing it to your child

Influence of cartoons on children

Multifilms are children's favorite entertainment. Children used to watch cartoons from CDs and rare TV shows. It's easier today. At the service of young viewers round the clock TV and -channels.

Funny short videos have become a reliable assistant to parents. Capricious – cartoon, does not want to eat – cartoon, can not sleep – cartoon.

Everything is so simple that you do not want to think about the influence of cartoons on the psyche of the child. And you should.

Psychologists and pediatricians believe that children can spend no more than 2 hours a day behind the screen. This is the total time for the TV screen, laptop, tablet and other gadgets.

In practice, some parents allow young children to watch cartoons much longer.

At first it does not have much effect, but at the age of 2-3 years old children begin to imitate the heroes, and at the age of 3-6 years old cartoons help to form the idea of the world.

What do not the authors of the cartoons say

Problems of many popular cartoons – the main character with negative traits. Interesting fact: in 2015, one of the series of cartoon series “Masha and the Bear” had the most views in Ukraine.

Probably, you are familiar with the joke: “Thanks to the authors of “Masha and the Bear” for the opportunity to wash, comb and drink coffee. Funny cartoon.

That's just whether Masha is a positive hero and what she can teach the child? Some episodes are really informative – they help to remember letters and numbers, show the value of friendship and the like. But only a few.

Kids swallow funny series, where a little girl is being mean and selfish. That's one of the examples. And there's Smeshariki, Shrek, Mignons, Naughty Family, Zlyuki beavers, the classic Tom and Jerry, Wait, and others.

For a child, the protagonist automatically becomes positive. It is perceived as a “model” for behavior and a reference point to follow.

Movie animation is a business. It makes no sense for the authors to worry about morality, the main thing is to make the story fun and interesting. Then there will be demand and profit. For example, the monthly income of the Russian channel Masha and Medved is 184-230 thousand US dollars. USA.

This is another problem – cruelty in cartoons. Heroes fall from high altitude or hit each other. It looks funny and funny. But is it right? After all, everyone is safe and sound. The child doesn't always understand that the consequences in life will be different.

Negative effect of cartoons on children

  1. Children who watch many cartoons with violence hidden behind funny scenes:
  • are no longer sympathetic;
  • are not uncomfortable encountering violence in real life;
  • are prone to aggressive behavior.
  1. Pure viewing of cartoons causes addiction.

  2. Children who spend more than four hours a day behind the screen are overweight.
  3. In the United States, an experiment was conducted: four-year-old children were divided into 2 groups. The first one was just drawing for nine minutes. The second one was watching a cartoon. Then everybody was asked to take tests for attention, accuracy, self-regulation, and some other abilities.

    The group that drew showed much better results.

Positive influence of cartoons on children

  1. Multiplying cartoons help children learn about letters, numbers, colors, shapes, purpose of things and the like.
  2. Children adopt the behavior of the main character. This is good if the character has positive features and the cartoon clearly helps to understand the difference between good and evil.
  3. Multiplets in another language help to learn and assimilate foreign words.

What children who watch cartoons don't do

American Pediatricians Association has offered an original view on the impact of cartoons. So, what aren't kids doing while they're watching cartoons?

  • do not ask questions;
  • do not solve problems;
  • do not create;
  • do not show initiative;
  • do not develop motor skills;
  • do not think critically, logically, and analytically;
  • do not practice communication skills;
  • do not play interactive games.

How to be

What do parents do? How to treat children's passion for cartoons, prohibit or allow? Definitely allowing it. However, the influence of cartoons on the psyche of the child – not a fiction. To reduce the negative will help parents to follow some simple rules:

  • to set a time limit for watching cartoons;
  • to not put a TV and a computer in the children's room;
  • to look for developing cartoons and offer them to the child;
  • to stop watching the video at least an hour before bedtime;
  • sometimes to watch cartoons with the baby and discuss the actions of the characters;
  • to review their behavior: If parents spend the whole evening watching TV, the child has no other option but to entertain himself with cartoons or computer games.

Disclaimer from cartoons is unrealistic. And don't do that. Good cartoons in moderate doses have a positive effect on the development of the child. And as for the videos of naughty heroes, it will not be possible to ban them completely. The only thing left to do is to monitor what the child is watching and discuss all the disputable moments and tell him:

  • why can't he act anyway;
  • what is the threat of falling from a height, playing with fire, etc.e. in real life;
  • which features of the hero are good and which are bad.
