How fast and easy it is to learn a multiplication table by heart (in 5 minutes)

How to learn a multiplication table in 5 minutes

Many parents whose children have graduated from first grade ask themselves the question of how to help a child quickly learn a multiplication table. Children are asked to learn this table for the summer, and not always the child shows a desire to learn in the summer. Moreover, if you just mechanically jag and don't fix the result, you can forget some examples later.

In this article, read the ways to quickly learn the multiplication table. Of course, you can't do it in 5 minutes, but you can get a good result in a few lessons.

Also read the article on how to quickly learn a poem.

Where do I start learning about multiplication tables?

The child needs to be told what multiplication is first (if he doesn't already know). Show the meaning of multiplication by a simple example. For example, 3*2 means that the number 3 should be added twice. That's 3*2=3+3. And 3×3 means the number 3 should be added up three times. That is, 3*3=3+3+3+3. And so on. Understanding the essence of multiplication table, it will be easier for a child to learn it.

For children it will be easier to perceive multiplication table not in the form of columns, but in the form of pythagoras table. It looks like this:

Explain that the numbers at the intersection of column and line are the result of multiplication. It is much more interesting to study such a table for a child, because here you can find certain regularities. And, when you look carefully at this table, it is visible that the numbers allocated by one colour, repeat.

From this child even can make a conclusion (and it already will be development of a brain) that at multiplication at change of factors places product does not vary.

That is it will understand that 6*4=24 and 4*6=24 and so on. I mean, you don't have to teach the whole table, you have to teach half of it! Believe me, when you see the whole table for the first time (wow, how much to learn!), the child will be sad.

But when he realizes that he needs to learn half of it, he will have a lot of fun.

Table Pythagoras printed and hanged in a visible place. Each time a child looks at it, they will remember and repeat some examples. This point is very important.

Begin learning a table from simple to complex: first learn multiplication by 2, 3, and then by other numbers.

For easy memorization of the table use various tools: poems, cards, online simulators, small multiplication secrets.

Cards are one of the best ways to quickly learn a multiplication table

Multiplication table needs to be learned gradually: you can take one column a day to remember. When you learn to multiply by a number, you need to fix the result with the help of cards.

You can make the cards yourself, or you can print the ready-made ones. You can download the cards by clicking on the link below.

Download the cards to study the multiplication table.

On one side of the card you can find the multiplication numbers and the answer on the other side. All the cards are folded with the answer down. The student pulls the cards out of the deck one by one, responding to a given example. If the answer is correct, the card is put aside, if the student made a mistake – the card returns to the common deck.

This way the memory is trained, and the multiplication table learns faster. I mean, playing games is always more interesting to learn. In the game with the cards works both visual memory and auditory (you need to voice the equation). The student also wants to get rid of all the cards as soon as possible.

When we learned a little multiplication by 2, we played cards with multiplication by 2. Learned multiplication by 3, played cards with multiplication by 2 and 3. And so on.

Multiplication by 1 and 10

These are the easiest examples. You don't even have to learn anything here, just understand how the numbers multiply by 1 and 10. Start by multiplying the table by these numbers. Explain to the child that multiplying by 1 will produce the same number. Multiply by one means to take a number once. There shouldn't be any difficulties.

Multiply by 10 means that you need to add up the number 10 times. And you'll always get a number ten times that of the multiplier. That is, to get an answer, you just have to add zero to the multiplied number! A child can easily turn units into dozens, adding zero. Play cards with the student so they can remember all the answers better.

Multiplying by 2

Multiplying by 2 children can learn in 5 minutes. I mean, he's already learned how to stack units at school. And multiplication by 2 is nothing but adding two identical numbers. When a child knows that 2*2 = 2+2 and 5*2 = 5+5 and so on, this column will never become a stumbling block for him/her.

Multiplying by 4

After you have learned to multiply by 2, proceed to multiply by 4. This column will be easier for the child to remember than multiply by 3. To easily learn multiplication by 4, write to your child that multiplication by 4 is multiplication by 2, only twice. That is, first multiply the result by two and then by 2.

For example, 5*4 = 5*2 *2 = 5+5 (as in case of multiplication by 2, we need to add the same numbers, get 10) + 10 = 20.

Multiplication by 3

If there are difficulties with studying this column, you can ask for help with poems. You can get poems ready, or you can come up with one yourself. Children have a good associative memory. If the child shows a clear example of multiplication on any of the objects in his or her environment, he or she will more easily remember the answer that he or she will associate with an object.

Example, arrange pencils in 3 packs of 4 (or 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 – depending on which example the child forgets) pieces. Think of a problem: you have 4 pencils, Dad has 4 pencils and Mom has 4 pencils. How many pencils are there? Count pencils and conclude that 3*4 = 12. Sometimes this kind of visualization is very helpful to remember the “complex” example.

Multiplication by 5

I remember it being the easiest column for me to remember. Because each next product increases by 5.

If you multiply an even number by 5, the answer will also result in an even number ending in 0. Children easily remember this: 5*2 = 10, 5*4 = 20, 5*6 = 30, etc.

If we multiply the odd number, we will get an odd number in the answer that ends with 5: 5*3 = 15, 5*5 = 25, etc.

Multiplication by 9

I write after 5 at once 9, because in multiplication by 9 there is a small secret which will help to learn this column quickly. You can learn multiplication by 9 by using your fingers!

For this purpose put your hands palms up, spread your fingers. Mentally number your fingers from left to right from 1 to 10. Fold the finger by which number to multiply 9. For example, you need a 9×5. You bend five fingers. All fingers on the left (there are 4 of them are tens), fingers on the right (there are 5 of them) are units. Connect tens and units and get 45.

One more example. How much is 9*7? Bend the seventh finger. Six fingers on the left, three on the right. Connect, get – 63!

To better understand this simple way to learn multiplication by 9 – watch the video.

This is another interesting fact about multiplication by 9. Look at the picture below. If you write down with the column multiplication by 9 from 1 to 10, you can see that the works will have some regularity. The first digits will be from 0 to 9 from the top down, the second digits – from 0 to 9 from the bottom up.

As well, if you look carefully at the resulting bar, you can see that the sum of the numbers in the product is 9. For example, 18 is 1+8=9, 27 is 2+7=9, 36 is 3+6=9 and so on.

The second interesting observation is: the first digit of the answer is always 1 less than the number by which 9 is multiplied. That is 9×5=45 – 4 is one less than 5; 9×9=81 – 8 is one less than 9. Knowing this, it's easy to remember which number the answer starts with 9. If the second digit is forgotten, it can be easily calculated knowing that the sum of the numbers in the answer is 9.

For example, how much will be 9×6? We immediately understand that the answer will start with the number 5 (one less than 6). Second digit: 9-5=4 (because the sum of the numbers is 4+5=9). It turns out to be 54!

View how easy and fast it is to calculate the product when multiplying by 9. Consolidate your knowledge with cards, and the child won't be confused in the answers anymore.

Multiplication by 6.7.8

When you and your child start to study multiplication by these numbers, they will already know multiplication by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9. From the very beginning, you explained to him that 5×6 is the same as 6×5. So he already knows some of the answers, they don't need to be taught first.

The rest of the equations need to be taught. Use the Pythagoras table and the card game for better memory.

There is one way to count the answer when multiplied by 6, 7, 8 on the fingers. But it's more complicated than multiplying by 9, it'll take time to count. But if some example does not want to be remembered in any way, try to count on your child's fingers, perhaps, it will be easier for him to learn these most difficult columns.

How to count 6, 7, and 8 on your fingers see the video below.

To make it easier to remember the most complex examples from the multiplication table, solve simple problems with the right numbers with your child, give an example from life. All kids like to go to the store with their parents. Think of a problem on this topic.

For example, a student can't remember how much 7×8 will be. Then simulate the situation: It's his birthday. He invited seven friends to visit him. Each friend needs 8 candies.

How many candies will he buy in the friend shop? Answer 56 he will remember much faster, knowing that this is the amount of food for friends.

Multip table can be remembered not only at home. If you and your child are on the street, you can solve problems based on what you see. For example, four dogs ran past you. Ask your child how many paws, ears, tails do dogs have? So let them play well. Turn on the student's online multiplication table simulator.

To study the multiplication table when the child is in a good mood. If he's tired, he's starting to freak out, you better leave his further education another time.

Use the methods that work best for your child and it works!

How quickly and without nerves to learn multiplication table

How to learn multiplication table in 5 minutes

Now, many years later, when we had to learn and master a lot, it seems very easy to study a multiplication table.

And remember yourself at the age of a second or third grade student you thought you couldn't learn a multiplication table.

But I had to learn, and everyone taught in different ways.

Let's look at the easiest way for a child to learn a multiplication table to be interested in, and he quickly remembers the multiplication table.

Step 1: Preparing for the study of multiplication tables

The most important thing is how you can help your child learn about multiplication tables is to find and print the multiplication table itself and tell the principle of multiplication.

When a child understands the multiplication principle itself, then he can quickly learn the multiplication table and it will be easy for him to learn it.

Multiplication table you can cut out of the notebook, it is on the back of the notebook.

Multiplying table is of two kinds:

The most important thing you have to explain to your child is that if the child understands the principle of multiplication, he or she will easily learn the multiplication table and won't have to learn it and train without understanding its meaning.

Before you start learning a multiplication table, look at it with your child and find the specific sequences, patterns, and patterns that the table has to explain to your child how and from what these patterns appear.

Try to focus the child's attention on the important points of the multiplication table.

Start studying the multiplication table by two and at the same time consider the addition with the child so that they understand the essence of multiplication itself.

Example: you need to learn the multiplication table by two, you multiply 2 * 3 = 6 with the child, the same action you sign with the child as a sum of 2 + 2 + 2 = 6.

That is, the number two you take and add three times and you get the same answer.

Explain to the child that multiplying only two numbers he will quickly find the answer, and if he will add the number several times, it will take him a long time to get the answer.

We will consider the following examples:

2 * 4 = 8

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8

2 * 5 = 10

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10

2 * 6 = 12

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 12

2 * 7 = 14

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 14

2 * 8 = 16

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 16

2 * 9 = 18

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 18/p>

2 * 10 = 20

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 20

Based on these examples, the child will easily understand the essence of multiplication, he does not want to add the same number of times, he will clearly see the way of multiplication and its regularity.

Become familiar with the multiplication table by two and learn it, the child can easily start to study the multiplication table by three and so on.

Step 3: Learn the multiplication table in parts

No need to teach the multiplication table all at once this is very difficult for the child and instead of knowing it, the child will have one porridge in his head.

Always learn the multiplication table in parts, start with the simplest numbers first by two, three, then fix the multiplication table. Ask your child in a variety of ways, then you can start studying the multiplication table by four, then by five.

We will gradually learn the multiplication table step by step and be sure to fix the learned multiplication table with examples, interesting questions or in the form of a game, the child will not only be useful to learn the multiplication table, but also interesting.

Multiple-cell multiplication tables can be printed or drawn, the child can train and test his or her knowledge using the multiplication table already learned.

Explain the multiplication rule

The child should remember the main rule of the multiplication table: the product does not change due to the multiplier shifts.

Check with the child a few examples from the multiplication table that relate to this rule.

Example:

2 * 3 = 6

3 * 2 = 6

7 * 5 = 35

5 * 7 = 35

2 * 7 = 14

7 * 2 = 14

8 * 6 = 48

6 * 8 = 48

9 * 4 = 36

4 * 9 = 36

There are many such examples in the multiplication table, and when the child remembers the rule he will not have to learn each line of the multiplication table, because many examples are repeated in the following columns.

Stage 5: Never forget the multiplication table patterns

Multiplication table has a lot of patterns that you should always remember and know about using these patterns to easily learn and remember the multiplication table.

Number 1. Multiply by one

It doesn't matter what number you want to multiply by one you always get the same number that you multiply, multiplying by one doesn't change the final result
